Do you want to gain a Functional Skills Entry 3 English qualification? This course will prepare you for it, familiarising you with the content, level and expectations. You'll need to pass an initial assessment before starting. This course will help you improve your English skills in practical ways, using real-life examples. A Functional Skills qualification will give you essential knowledge to operate confidently in life and work.
Course Content
This course covers:
English Initial Assessment: Checking your current English level to ensure suitability for the course.
Reading Skills: Understanding the main points of straightforward written texts.
Writing Skills: Planning, drafting, and organising writing for different purposes and readers, using correct basic grammar.
Speaking and Listening Skills: Taking an effective part in formal and informal discussions.
Text Types: Reading and understanding different types of text and finding information from them.
Reading Purposes: Reading for different purposes (e.g., finding detail, getting the main idea).
Accuracy: Checking work for accuracy, including spelling.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
A good level of everyday English is required.
You need to have achieved Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English.
You will need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level.
First Class Requirements
To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.
Attendance Requirements
After you successfully pass the Entry 3 Functional Skills level, you can then go on to take Functional Skills Level 1.
We will also provide support with applying to university and careers guidance to help you decide on your options following the completion of the programme.
Assessment Methods
The course is assessed through:
Reading Exam: Testing comprehension of straightforward written texts.
Writing Exam: Evaluating the ability to produce clear, simple written documents.
Speaking and Listening Assessment: Measuring effective communication and understanding in practical tasks.
After completing this course, you can progress to Functional Skills English Level 1.
