Do you want to gain a Functional Skills Entry 3 English qualification? Are you unsure if you're ready for the full course? This ‘Getting Ready’ course is designed to prepare you! You'll become familiar with the content, level, and expectations of the full qualification. This course will boost your confidence and ensure you're ready to succeed. You will need to complete and pass an initial assessment before starting this course.

Course Content

This course covers:
Understand the main points of what you read
Read and understand different types of text and find information from them
Read for different purposes (e.g. find detail, get the main idea, decide if it’s worth reading)
Plan, draft and organise writing, so that it is in a sensible order
Write for different purposes and different readers and use correct basic grammar
Check work for accuracy, including spelling
Take an effective part in formal and informal discussions

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You need to complete an English initial assessment to check your level.
The entry requirement for this course is Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English.

First Class Requirements

You may need to purchase a textbook for the course along with some basic stationery. We will give you details of this at the interview, but it will be a modest cost. For any learners who will struggle to pay for equipment, there is a hardship fund available.

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

Assessment Methods

Your English skills will be assessed and developed through a portfolio of work and a Personal Learning Plan (PLP). Your tutor will gather and mark your work as you progress through the course. If you successfully complete this course, you can then progress onto the full qualification. Functional Skills English courses use real-life examples and situations to develop essential English skills for work and day-to-day life.

Further Study Options

If you successfully complete this course, you can then progress onto the full qualification in November.
