There is a growing demand for workers in the health and social care and social work sectors and this course is designed as a stepping stone for those interested in social work as well as those currently working or thinking of working in the care sector.

The course is designed to allow flexible learning and you will benefit from a mixture of both face to face tuition and online learning.

In addition to gaining a nationally recognised Level 2 certificate in Adult Social Care you will develop the wider skills and knowledge required for higher study and the workplace.

Course Content

This level 2 qualification is suitable for those who are looking to work in, or widen their knowledge of, the adult social care sector and is also designed to act as a progression route for those interested in Social Work.

The course is split into nine manageable units:

Unit 1: Principles of communication in adult social care settings
Unit 2: Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
Unit 3: Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
Unit 4: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Unit 5: Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings
Unit 6: Understand the role of the social care worker
Unit 7: Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings
Unit 8: Understand health and safety in social care settings
Unit 9: Understand how to handle information in social care settings.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

As this is a level 2 course, ideally you will have Level 1 English skills (e.g. Functional Skills English). If you are not able to produce evidence of an English qualification, you will be required to take a short assessment. To ensure this course and style of learning is suitable for you, we will also require you to complete a short course application and attend a brief [online] interview. It will be beneficial to have access to I.T equipment and internet service to and a PC, laptop or tablet is recommended. However, it will be possible for you to complete the online element of the course at the college.

Assessment Methods

You will submit assignments, for each unit, online and your work will be marked by your tutor. You will need to successfully complete all units on the course to achieve the certificate.

This qualification will be advantageous to those working or directly seeking work in the Adult Social Care sector and those interested in pursuing a career in Social Work.

Access to Higher Education (Social Work)

(Note: to progress Level 3 study you will need to have gained a Level 2 English qualification e.g. GCSE or Functional Skills)

Additional Information

This course will be delivered in a hybrid model of delivery. You will attend class every week for 12 weeks and complete course on the EQUAL learning platform, an award-winning, learning resource of the highest quality. Learning resources are designed to be engaging and interactive to keep you focused on your learning at all times. This hybrid model of learning means you can choose when and where you study, although you are expected to attend the face to face class weekly and complete your course within the given timeframe.
