How to Write an Effective Cover Letter

This is one of four sessions in our Preparation for Work cycle, aimed to equip you with the tools that you need to make your job more effective and less daunting. In this session, you will find useful advice and tips to write an eloquent cover letter, whether you are applying for a job, an internship or a volunteering position.

Course Content

This session that will start and end with a self-assessment of knowledge and skills. Feedback from peers and facilitator will help everyone to achieve the aims of the session, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Writing a personal statement is often one of the most difficult parts of applying for a job. During the session, you will learn effective ways to present yourself and write a convincing cover letter (or personal statement, if you are applying online).

First Class Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

Attendance Requirements

Please talk to your tutor about other employability workshops the college has to offer. You may also want to consider the 6- week New Direction employability course that leads to a Level 1 employability qualification.

Assessment Methods

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on the start date of the course. There are no other formal entry requirements for this course.

Additional Information

You are expected to have an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders as well as pencils, a rubber, a ruler and a highlighter pen.
