How to Write an Effective Cover Letter

Are you finding it hard to write a cover letter that grabs attention? This course is designed to equip you with the tools you need to make your job search more effective and less daunting. You'll gain useful advice and tips to write an eloquent cover letter, whether you are applying for a job, an internship, or a volunteering position. This is one of four sessions in our Preparation for Work cycle, designed to boost your confidence and success.

Course Content

This course covers:
Preparing to Write: Discussions and reflections about the best way to prepare to write an effective cover letter.
Template Creation: Preparing a template for your letters and ensuring you find your personal style.
Expressing Motivation: Expressing your motivation for a role and standing out among the applicants.
Practical Application: Practising writing your cover letter (bringing a job description for a role you might be interested in is helpful).

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

There are no other formal entry requirements for this course.

First Class Requirements

You are expected to have an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders as well as pencils, a rubber, a ruler and a highlighter pen.

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to 100% attendance and punctuality.

Assessment Methods

This session will start and end with a self-assessment of your knowledge and skills. Feedback from peers and the facilitator will help you achieve the aims of the session in a constructive and supportive environment. Consider other courses in our Preparation for Work cycle to further enhance your job search skills.
