Course Content

This course covers:
-Introduction to materials: nibs, inks, papers
-Historical background of Copperplate
-Letter-by-letter study using exemplars
-Pen pressure, spacing, and rhythm exercises
-Modern variations of Copperplate for personal style
-Creative projects such as cards, monograms, or books

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

First Class Requirements

If this is your fist calligraphy class please bring the below:

-Notebook and pencil
-Any existing calligraphy tools (if you have them)
-Tutor will provide advice on essential materials; some will be available in class

Assessment Methods

Ongoing feedback during class, with individual support and review of your progress through exercises and projects.Your progress will be assessed through Q&A, observations, PLPs, and practical sessions. This course can lead to further studies in calligraphy.

Further Study Options

Learners wishing to continue their calligraphy journey may wish to consider working towards a CLAS (Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society) certificate or diploma: www.clas.co.uk. You might also choose to apply your skills in areas such as graphic design, illustration, or fine art. Your tutor will be happy to discuss progression routes with you, which may include the Access to Art and Design course, the BTEC Foundation Diploma, or a wide range of Drawing and Painting courses offered by the college.
