This qualification will give the underpinning knowledge that is required to successfully work in a range of different environments in a business administration role. Develop essential knowledge of how to carry out administrative tasks such as how to manage information and supporting events. Also learn how to apply the knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles.

Course Content

The course is structured in six units, where you will learn:

Unit 1: Principles of providing administrative services

This unit will develop knowledge on a range of administrative support tasks as well as meeting types, different mail services and how to organise travel and accommodation. This unit also covers the impact of delivering poor customer service.

Unit 2: Principles of business document production and information management

This unit will provide an understanding of how to prepare and distribute business documents and identify how information is managed in business organisations.

Unit 3: Understand employer organisations

This unit will provide an understanding of different organisational structures and the organisational environment.

Unit 4: Understand communication in a business environment

This unit looks at the skills of written and verbal business communication, including identifying appropriate body language and tone of voice when communicating verbally.

Unit 14: Social media

This unit covers the opportunities and threats associated with using social media and the application of social media within a business.

Unit 15: Safe use of online and social media.

This unit covers the safe use of social media platforms, how to adopt appropriate security methods to safeguard your systems and data, threats on the internet and how to protect your online devices from online security attacks and fraud. This unit will also cover the implications of entering personal information onto social media sites and the legal measures that address the protection of data.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You will also need to demonstrate competence in English and maths at Level 1.

Attendance Requirements

In line with college policy, 100% attendance is expected.

Assessment Methods

Your understanding will be assessed informally during the lessons, to ensure that you are progressing well; your tutor will provide constructive feedback to support your learning.

You will need to pass all six units, to achieve the qualification; achievement of each of the units will be assessed through written tasks and workbooks.

Further Study Options

On completion of the course, you can progress onto a Level 3 course in Management, or an Access to Higher Education course.
