Level 3 Certificate in Coding Practices - NCFE (DL)

This course will be delivered online.

The purpose of the NCFE Level 3 in Coding Practices is to provide learners with awareness of formal coding practices in the IT industry. It will provide the learner with a chance to develop knowledge and skills relating to coding practices with the view to seeking employment or proceeding to further study in this area.

Who is it suitable for?

This course is particularly suitable for those looking to consolidate their knowledge of coding and learn practical skills which can be used to seek work or proceed into study at Level 4.

This course is a distance learning course. There are also monthly tutorials you can attend to interact with the tutor and your peer learners. Distance learning courses require you to have sufficient capacity to study independently and this is advised at 6-8 hours per week over the duration of the course (24 weeks)

This course is free for any adult aged over 19 and over who wants to achieve their first full level 3 qualification.(equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or A levels) via the National Skills Fund

This offer is part of the governments Plan for Jobs. It represents a long-term commitment to remove the age constraints and financial barriers for adults looking for their first level 3 qualification so that they can access training to enable them to progress.

Course Content

You will complete 5 mandatory units to achieve this qualification:

Coding Requirements and Planning (M/618/0976)
Understand Coding Design (A/618/0978)
Implementation of Coding (F/618/0979)
Software Testing (T/618/0980)
Understand Deployment, Maintenance and Configuration Management (A/618/0981)

Learners on this course can also elect to separately pursue the CISCO Programming Essentials/Associate in Python course which is offered as a free package to learners doing this course to help specifically devetop technical skills

The methods of teaching are:
Online based with an eLearning platform
Access to monthly group tutorials
One to one support and careers advice
Project work.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

You will need to have enough English (at a minimum of Level 2 equivalent) to be able to:

?? Understand instructions with some technical vocabulary

?? Communicate with the tutor and participate in classroom discussions

You may have already some prior knowledge of programming or coding practices.

You will also need a good level of computer skills and familiarity with the basic terminology of computing. If you don t have this please look at our data science or intro to python coding course or essential digital skills level 1.

If you are new to the college, you may be advised to first enrol on an alternative course before committing to a qualification. This is to help fully assess both your commitment and your motivation to complete an accredited course whereby the completion of coursework is required.

First Class Requirements

Not applicable but for distance learning the following is advised

Cloud storage space to store any related files or resources
A folder to keep handouts and printouts of work produced.
Pen to complete written documentation

Attendance Requirements

This course doesn t require formal attendance, however if submission deadlines are not missed then you could be at risk of withdrawal.

Assessment Methods

You will develop your skills throughout the course and carry out written and practical exercises to demonstrate these for each unit . This course is assessed through developing a portfolio throughout the course which is submitted at the end of the course and is marked internally by the centre and then externally moderated.

The course also carries tariff points which you can use to accumulate towards university entry in computer science or software engineering.
