This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding of web design to work in a web design team, as a freelance web designer or seek an opportunity for relevant employment.
This course although listed onsite, allows for hybrid delivery. Here you can join the class online and be streamed into the classroom. Please discuss this with your interviewer.
This offer is part of the governments Plan on Free courses for Jobs. It represents a long-term commitment to remove the age constraints and financial barriers for adults looking for their first level 3 qualification so that they can access training to enable them to progress.
Course Content
You will complete five mandatory units to achieve this qualification:
Understanding the Web and Web Design
Creating a Web Page Using HTML
Understanding and Using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Understanding and Using Javascript
Understanding the Fundamentals of Web Images and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
The methods of teaching are:
Classroom based with work related material
Group work and pair work
One to one support and careers advice
Project work.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You will need to have enough English (at a minimum of Level 2 equivalent) to be able to:
- Understand instructions with some technical vocabulary
- Communicate with the tutor and participate in classroom discussions
You will also need a good level of computer skills and familiarity with the basic terminology of web design or creative media. If you don't have this or want a gentler introduction please look at our creative web design.
If you are new to the college, you may be advised to first enrol on an alternative course before committing to a qualification. This is to help fully assess both your commitment and your motivation to complete an accredited course whereby the completion of coursework is required.
First Class Requirements
A memory stick to save work electronically.
A folder to keep handouts and printouts of work produced.
Pen to complete written documentation
Attendance Requirements
All absences need to be reported, as this is a qualification course which requires 100% attendance. If you are aware of any commitments that will cause you to be absent please let the Tutor know as soon as possible.
Assessment Methods
You will develop your skills throughout the course and carry out written or practical exercises to demonstrate these for each unit . This course is assessed through developing a portfolio throughout the course which is submitted at the end of the course and is marked internally by the centre and then externally moderated.
