Makaton Early Years Taster

Makaton Early Years Taster session.

These short sessions are designed for people who are interested in finding out about Makaton and helping to decide whether to attend further Makaton Workshop training.

The Taster gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is and who uses it, and it gives you the opportunity to learn some Makaton too. You'll be shown the signs and symbols for around 30 useful everyday words, plus another 12 on an Early Years theme.

Participants receive handouts covering the vocabulary they have learned and general information regarding further Makaton training and Makaton resources.

Course Content

You will learn 34 core concepts from the Makaton Vocabulary Programme. You will then learn a further 12 bespoke signs relevant to use in Early Years settings. In addition, Suzanne from Singing Hands will demonstrate how to utilise Makaton signs in some popular Nursery Rhymes. You will receive handouts covering nearly 50 signs and symbols and general information regarding further Makaton training and Makaton resources.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

There are no formal entry requirements. However, to fully benefit from this workshop, we recommend you have a minimum of Entry 3 English speaking and listening skills.

Assessment Methods
