Why Study This Course?
This is a Level 2 course and aims to develop further skills in using collaborative office software, Word processing software, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint to produce professional documents and presentations, that are based around relevant workplace skills.
This is not a beginner s course.
This course develops the IT skills you will need to support your progression and helps you to gain confidence with the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
The course covers the following applications:
Word - mail-merge, advanced formatting of documents, formatting styles, manipulating objects, working with templates, and adjusting document layouts
Excel - working with formulae and functions, producing charts and graphs to present data, working with conditional formatting, data validation, creating tables, filtering, and sorting, adjusting the layout for large data
PowerPoint - create and edit professional presentations, using charts and graphs, creating a slide master, insert videos, animation, and sound
Outlook - setting rules, organising folders, calendars, creating tasks, managing contacts, sharing, and achieving files, export/import calendars and data
OneDrive - file management, file sharing, setting restrictions and editing documents
Teams - setting meetings, adjusting settings, making calls, creating channels, and inserting other apps
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You will need to have enough English (at a minimum of Level 1 equivalent) to communicate clearly with the tutor and participate in classroom discussions.
On a computer you will need to be able to:
- Use a keyboard, mouse, and computer with confidence.
- Open a new document, save, and file it in a folder.
- Have a basic understanding of all software taught on the course
Ideally you will have already completed EDSQ L1, Office Skills Certificate Level 1, or previous courses using Office software. We will however consider past practical experience.
The modules are taught so that you gain knowledge of best practice and are able to evaluate the use of IT so that your work practices are efficient.
The methods of teaching are:
Classroom based with work related material
Group work and Pair work
One to One support and careers advice
Class tasks
A college certificate of completion is gained by producing a PLP (Personal Learning Plan) and portfolio which is produced from class-based exercises with ongoing feedback provided by the tutor.
Students can gain access to a free Microsoft 365 license by becoming a RHACC student.
