Why Study This Course:
Are you interested in learning about art and and artists, and using what you learn to inspire your own art? This course is designed just for you! We'll introduce you to the history and techniques of well known and less well known artists. You'll learn techniques of drawing and painting through exploring the work of artists who have gone before, discovering new ways to develop your creativity in a friendly, relaxed environment with a supportive tutor.

Course Content

This course covers:

-Drawing Exercises: developing your skills and exploring historically significant mediums such as charcoal and ink, including line and shape, proportion, object and surround, composition and tonality.
-Colour Mixing: Exploration of colour mixing, developing an understanding of hue, value, and saturation, using watercolour, oil paint or soft pastel according to your preference.
-Exploring artists: looking at contemporary and historical artists with opportunities for discussion and understanding of artist concepts.
-Projects: Drawing inspiration from the methods and ideas of our artist research to develop your unique creative drawing and painting projects.

How Will You Learn:

You'll learn through hands-on, practical sessions led by an experienced tutor. They will share their industry expertise and offer personalised feedback. You will also collaborate with your tutor to create a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), allowing you to set clear learning goals and track your progress.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

-Some prior knowledge of art materials, tools and techniques is required to make this a more beneficial experience.

Assessment Methods

Each session will conclude with informal, supportive group critiques, where you can share your work and receive constructive feedback. Your tutor will provide individual verbal feedback as you work on projects. Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) will be developed to guide your progress, tailored to your specific goals and needs.

Additional Information

You will need your own set of oil or watercolour paints or soft pastels. For the first lesson you will need a sketchbook, pencil and eraser. Your tutor will advise you of any additional course materials.
