The course aims to encourage you to explore ways of drawing and painting with joy and confidence, while acquiring expertise. Various techniques and approaches will be looked at in detail and suitable exercises will be offered. The course will benefit students with some previous experience who wish to practise and develop their skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
Course Content
The Barnes through Painting and Drawing course will concentrate on images found in and around Barnes (this includes buildings, street scenes, people, trees, parks and the River Thames). We will use photographic images to work from and occasionally, if the weather allows, go sketching outside.
Various drawing and painting techniques will be explored, which will include pencil, coloured pencil, pen & ink, conté, crayons, pastel, watercolours, gouache and acrylics.
Teaching methods include: practical demonstrations, practical hands on experience, exchanging ideas and experience with others, keeping a sketchbook, looking at the work of inspirational artists within an art history context, formal instruction, individual tuition, personal and group critiques.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Intermediate beginners, intermediate and advanced learners are welcome, all will be accommodated at their individual level.
Some previous skills or knowledge are appreciated but not vital.

Protective clothing is advisable. You will need to provide all your own art materials and pay for any suggested visits to galleries and museums.
