This course is a relaxed introduction to using Japanese woodcut tools, and creating a print with watercolour methods. A fun way to explore colour, relief printing and drawing, you will also learn how to print in several layers using a range of hand-pulling techniques.
Course Content
This course looks at the history of block printing in Europe and the East, with introductions to different types of paper as well as discussing inks, paints, glues and tools.
Learn how to make a simple frame to print layered designs accurately, mix colours, ink up your plate and make prints by hand.
Course aims:
• You will learn about the history of relief printing in Europe as well as Asia.
• You will learn how to use Japanese woodcut tools, including specific cutting techniques.
• You will learn how to ink up your woodcut plates and make prints using the Japanese method of painting them with watercolour inks and hand burnishing.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
Suitable for all including beginners.
