Course Content
This course covers:
Design Approaches: Observing and discussing effective design principles for linocut printmaking, referencing plates, prints, and images.
Lino Cutting and Printing Process: A methodical approach guiding you through the stages of creating both black and white and multi-coloured prints.
Mark-Making and Tool Selection: Understanding the effects achievable through various mark-making techniques and selecting the appropriate lino cutting tools.
Printmaking Inks: Learning about water-based and intaglio inks, mixing colours, and becoming familiar with different ink rollers.
Printing Space Setup: Setting up your printing space for each stage of the process to ensure successful prints.
Columbian Print Press: Using the Columbian print press to create your prints.
Registration Techniques: Learning different strategies for lining up paper on the plate, especially for multi-layered prints.
Group Learning: Encouraging a group feeling where learners progress together, observing and learning from each other.
Personal Creativity: Encouraging individual designs and approaches to cutting, inking, and printing.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
No prior experience is necessary. An interest in the subject and a willingness to learn are required.

First Class Requirements
Items and materials provided for the first include:
Inks
A6 lino
Bread and Butter piece of paper for your print
Newsprint
Acetate sheet
Woodcarving/linocutting tools, palettes and rollers (this will be available throughout, however it is encouraged that you bring your own set of tools for cutting as there may not be a large amount of all types available at all times.)
Further equipment and materials for subsequent lessons will be required - most of which can be bought at / or are provided for by the college. These items, and there provision thereof, will be discussed in the first class.
Assessment Methods
There is no formal assessment. You will set personal targets with your tutor and review them throughout the course. You'll track your progress through written notes and tutor feedback, gauging your development.
