Have you always wanted to try ceramics? This course is perfect for you! You'll learn handbuilding techniques and how to use the potter's wheel. Discover decorating methods to make your creations unique. This course is for all levels, from complete beginners to those with some experience.

Course Content

This course covers:
Clay preparation and reclaim
Throwing on the electric potter's wheel
Using rolled out slabs of clay to form vessels
Forming a bowl by pinching
Glazing your own work

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

First Class Requirements

Please attend and be on time for the first lesson as it will cover a lot of basic information. Please also bring an apron, sketchbook and pen. You may have already got some tools to bring along too. If not, this equipment will be provided.

On the first day of the course, the tutor will inform you of any materials that may be required for this course.

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must commit to aim for 100% attendance and punctuality.

Assessment Methods

We will assess your progress through Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and regular discussions with your tutor. You'll track your practice and development through notes and tutor feedback. This will help you gauge your progress throughout the course.

Additional Information

We recommend wearing nonslip, closed footwear in the pottery area. Some tools can be borrowed, but you should build your own collection with advice from your tutor. Please allow 15 minutes at the end of each class to tidy up.
Please note there is an additional cost of approx. £50 - £100 for materials on this course.
