Want to explore the world of jazz singing? Led by Wendy Linsey, this course offers a fun and creative environment where you'll learn practical skills and have plenty of opportunities to perform. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, this course will help you develop your voice and build your confidence as a jazz singer. Get ready to unleash your inner jazz vocalist!
Course Content
This course covers:
How and what to practice
Learning the song and its structure
Singing with a microphone
Developing confidence and performance skills
Singing with and communicating with other musicians
Listening to and appreciating the classical vocalists
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You should be able to sing some songs, though not necessarily jazz.
You should have some appreciation of pitch.
Some knowledge of music theory will be useful.
Level 1 literacy is important as handouts will be distributed.

Attendance to all sessions throughout the course will help you gain maximum benefit from the course.
Assessment Methods
There is no formal assessment. You'll identify individual goals and reflect on your development. Your tutor will assess your learning and progress through the practical nature of the classes. You may wish to progress to further practical jazz courses at Richmond Jazz School. See the website for more information on these courses.
Additional Information
The course includes performance opportunities at college concerts and events, including a weekly Saturday lunchtime Open Mic session. Your tutor may recommend music reference books and recordings to listen to. Please note that while most classes will be classroom-based, the final session may be a cross-college jazz concert evening and may not be on the same day and time as your course.
