Stained Glass Contemporary and Traditional Beginners

Want to explore the colourful art of stained glass? This short course is perfect for beginners! You'll learn to create a beautiful hanging panel for your home, exploring colour, tone, and line through glass. We'll guide you from the very beginning, teaching you glass cutting, surface decoration, soldering, leading, and cementing. By the end, you'll have a stunning A4-sized stained glass window panel.

Course Content

This course covers:
Glass cutting, pattern making, leading, soldering and cementing
Glass painting and staining (if time allows)
Sandblasting and hand-painted resists (if time allows)
Basic fusing and inclusions (if time allows)

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Please note that this course is not suitable if you are pregnant.
Please note there is an additional cost of approx. £50 - £100 for materials on this course.

First Class Requirements

Please come to the class with paper and pencils, an apron and wear closed-toe shoes.

Attendance Requirements

Regular attendance is required. Please contact the tutor if you are unable to make the class.

Assessment Methods

Your progress will be assessed through Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and regular discussions with your tutor. You'll track your own practice through written notes, and your tutor will provide written feedback, helping you gauge your progression and personal development throughout the course.

Further Study Options

You are welcome to repeat the course progressing through projects as agreed with the tutor and tracking your own development. Once you can work more independently you are welcome to advance to the intermediate course. After this, there are more advanced stained glass courses but they are around the UK (tutor will advise). You could also gain an apprenticeship or work experience working for a stained glass artist.

Additional Information

No food or drink is allowed in the studio; a nearby hub area is available for snacks and drinks. You will need to pay for materials used from the college. Please note there are additional costs involved on this course for materials, this includes: Lead, Solder, copper Foil, Cement, Firing, Donated Glass and New Glass. Details will be provided in the first class. You may bring your own materials, but on-site storage is not available. Please allow 15 minutes at the end of each class to tidy up.
