This one-day course helps the newly self-employed complete a self-assessment tax return for the first time.

Course Content

This one-day workshop provides a supportive environment for people who are becoming self-employed and who, therefore, need to complete a self-assessment tax return for the first time.

Perhaps, also, you are starting a small business and continuing with your full or part-time job.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

Identify which records to keep
Register yourself as self-employed with the Inland Revenue
Have the confidence to complete a simplified tax return for a self-employed person
Identify key business expenses that can reduce your tax bill
Explain key points about National Insurance and VAT for the self-employed
Navigate your personal tax account with the Inland Revenue
Prepare an invoice

This course does not cover partnership or limited company tax.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

None, except a willingness to understand tax.

Assessment Methods

There is no formal assessment but you are welcome to ask questions at any time during the class.

Additional Information

The workshop will consist of a series of short lectures.
You will receive a workbook that you complete and take away.
Please bring notebook, calculator and pen.
