Why Study This Course?
Are you passionate about supporting young children? This course is designed for anyone who wants to understand mental health in children aged 0-5. You’ll learn how Early Years Practitioners can support children’s wellbeing whilst gaining valuable knowledge to progress to further qualifications or employment in health, social care, or education. We’ll help you make a real difference in young lives.
Please note: This course is free for GLA-funded learners only, subject to eligibility and funding checks. Learners outside the Greater London Authority (GLA) area are not currently eligible for funding.
This distance learning course offers the flexibility to study at your own pace. You will engage with interactive learning resources designed to keep you focused. You will develop a strong understanding of mental health in early years. You will learn practical strategies to support children's wellbeing.
This course covers:
Understand mental health for young children in the early years
Understand the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years
Understand the role of the Early Years Practitioner supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years
This distance learning course offers the flexibility to study at your own pace. You will engage with interactive learning resources designed to keep you focused. You will develop a strong understanding of mental health in early years. You will learn practical strategies to support children's wellbeing.
You must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You need confident Level 1 English skills (e.g. Functional Skills English). If you don't have proof of an English qualification, you'll take a short assessment.
You'll need to complete a short application and attend a brief online interview to ensure the course is right for you.
You should be motivated and committed to completing the course.
You should have access to a PC, laptop, or tablet and a reliable internet connection.
Your assessor will give you feedback on your written answers, which you'll submit via our learning platform. After completing this course, you might consider a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Early Years Education or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Other options include Level 2 courses in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health, Special Education Needs, or Understanding Autism. Many are available via distance learning!
