What is upholstery? Rebuilding and or recovering a piece of furniture either modern or traditional.

The four or five-day intensive course is suitable for all levels of upholstery skills, from beginners to those with some experience. Both traditional and modern techniques are taught, depending on your project. Upholstery is very time consuming, so if you bring a large project, please keep in mind that it may take longer than 5 days.

Please note you need bring in a piece of furniture. You provide the furniture, fabric and trimmings, and we provide the construction materials and tools required to complete the project. Please wear sensible clothes and shoes, (no open tow sandals) upholstery is quite a dusty job so do not wear your finest.

The course takes place during holiday times so you may want to bring a flask etc as the cafe is generally closed.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Over the duration of the course you will learn how to:

Use hand and some power tools safely.

Develop an understanding of some of the materials used in modern and traditional upholstery, what the differences are and the timeline of when they were introduced.

How to strip a piece of furniture in the right order, understanding what can be kept and restored, and what can be replaced.

By the end of the course you will have completed a piece of furniture (depending on its size, and what needs to be done).
