Fundraising activity at RHACC for the Ukrainian Crisis

The conflict in Ukraine is creating shockwaves around the world that are being felt by our College community. This is very difficult time for some of our colleagues, learners and friends who have family or connections in the Ukraine or Russia.  We have put a vase of sunflowers, the national flower of the Ukraine, on our Reception desks as symbol of our support for those affected by the conflict of whatever nationality.

Our learners across multiple courses have recently been hosting fundraisers to raise money to support many different Ukrainian charities. Ranging from Bake Sales, Live Mono Dumpling Demonstrations, and handmade Candle Jar Holders and Aboriginal Art Sale our Access and SEND learners have been busy!

We also have a number of colleagues supporting. Our Learner Services Team Leader Magdalena is coordinating donations for refugees via The White Eagle Club, a Polish organisation who are sending relief to refugees who are arriving in Poland. There will be donation points at each Reception.

Red Cross

All funds will be used to help those in need, affected by armed conflict, blood collection, mobilization of volunteers and resources, and emergency activities

As the security situation allows, the ICRC is responding to urgent humanitarian needs and must be able to continue their life saving work. ICRC water engineers and doctors aim to help more than 3 million people access clean water and improve the living conditions of more than 66,000 whose homes have been damaged by heavy fighting.

UN agencies

The Ukraine Humanitarian Fund is one of the UN's country-based pooled funds. Donations to the Humanitarian Fund in Ukraine will help humanitarian NGOs and UN agencies in the Ukraine to assist the most vulnerable communities and people, and to provide them with urgently needed food, water, shelter and other basic support.

UN Refugee Agency aids and protects people forced to flee their homes due to violence, conflict and persecution and provides shelter, food, water, medical care and other lifesaving assistance to refugees around the world.

As Ukraine descends into conflict, the World Food Programme (WFP) stands ready to deploy in support of affected populations.

NGOs providing direct support in Ukraine

The IRC is on the ground in Poland and preparing to support displaced families. Funds will help provide food, medical care and emergency supplies to refugee families in countries like Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. 

CARE is providing humanitarian aid including food, water, and hygiene kits to families fleeing violence. 

Save the Children is delivering essential humanitarian aid.

 

Medical/Health supplies

Help people affected by conflict in Ukraine - International Medical Corps is responding to the conflict by expanding access to medical and mental health services for those living in affected communities. 

  • Doctors without Borders org

Doctors without Borders runs a range of activities in Ukraine, including tuberculosis (TB) and HIV programs. They've recently started new projects in Donetsk and Luhansk, while also continuing to support the national COVID-19 response.
