Digital Filmmaking - Introduction

Want to learn how to bring your stories to life through film? This intensive course, held over two Saturdays, gives you the practical and theoretical knowledge you need to create your own videos. You'll learn all aspects of filmmaking, from shooting to editing. Whether you want to make a short narrative, documentary, or experimental video, this course is for you. You'll use a DSLR camera, your smartphone, or any video camera you have, along with Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.

Course Content

This course covers:
Filmmaking Grammar: Understand the basic rules of filmmaking
Exposure Control: Learn about exposure and how to control it on a video camera using manual settings
Framing and Composition: Discover and practice the principles of framing and composition
Sound Recording: Learn the importance of sound in filmmaking and the basic principles of sound recording
Filmmaking Styles: Be introduced to the different filmmaking styles of fiction, documentary, and experimental
Video and Audio Editing: Learn basic video and audio editing principles
Adobe Premiere Pro: Edit footage using Adobe Premiere Pro
Short Film Project: Make a short film on a theme of your choice

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

First Class Requirements

Preferably bring a DSLR camera to the class if you can. If this is not possible, you can also use your smartphone or any other digital video camera you have

Assessment Methods

Your progress will be assessed through Q&A, observations, Personal Learning Plans (PLPs), and practical sessions using specialist classroom facilities. You'll build a body of coursework and explore different outcomes that incorporate new techniques and processes.
