Do you want to build your confidence with numbers, shapes, and data? This course is designed to help you do just that! You'll develop essential maths skills and work towards a nationally recognised Entry Level 2 qualification in Functional Maths. This course is perfect for anyone looking to improve their maths skills for everyday life or further study. We'll support you every step of the way!

Course Content

This course covers:
Number: Count reliably up to 100 items, read, write, order and compare numbers up to 200, recognise and sequence odd and even numbers up to 100, recognise and interpret mathematical symbols, add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply whole numbers, understand time, divide two-digit numbers, approximate by rounding, recognise simple fractions, read, write and use decimals.
Measure Shape and Space: Calculate money, read and record time, use metric measures of length, weight and capacity, read and compare temperatures, read and use simple scales, recognise and name 2-D and 3-D shapes, describe the properties of shapes, use positional vocabulary.
Handling Data: Extract information from lists, tables, diagrams and bar charts, make numerical comparisons from bar charts, sort and classify objects using two criteria, take information from one format and represent the information in another format including use of bar charts.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.

Working towards Entry Level 2 Maths.
Completion of a computer-based initial assessment to evidence your current level of Maths.

First Class Requirements

You are expected to have an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders as well as pencils, a rubber, a 3cm ruler and a highlighter pen. You will also need a calculator.

Assessment Methods

Your progress will be assessed through an exam at the college. You'll have one exam sitting and the option of two re-sits if needed. Completing Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2 allows you to progress to Entry Level 3 Functional Skills Maths.

Additional Information

This course requires a significant commitment from you. If you're willing to commit to the course and the College, we will fully support you. You'll need to dedicate at least 3 to 4 hours per week to homework. Please bring an A4 writing pad, a ring-binder or folders, pencils, a rubber, a 30cm ruler, a highlighter pen, and a calculator to each session.
