Why Study This Course?
This 6-week course is designed for adult learners interested in developing skills in portraiture, whether they are beginners or have some prior art experience.
The focus is on drawing and basic painting techniques to create realistic and expressive portraits.
Classes will blend instruction, hands-on practice, and constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Each session lasts 3 hours.
Course Content
The course will train you to look and draw from observation. You will learn to apply techniques such as using negative space to measure proportion and use a light contour line to adapt a fluid approach to drawing.
You will learn to capture depth through tonal values and techniques for capturing shadows and shading.
You will observe portraiture from a range of artists and cultural influences and explore working with different media and expressive approaches to portraiture.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must be 19 or over on 31st August prior to the course start date.
You will be required to attend all sessions.
The course is suitable for all levels of ability.
Assessment Methods
You will develop skills gradually over a series of sessions.
There will be inclusive group critiques and discussions, as well as individual support from the tutor to help you achieve your goals.
