Moby Dick and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

This course will be delivered online.

An opportunity to read these great works side by side and explore their relevance to the post covid world.

We will read the texts and explores themes of the gothic/romanticism in Ancient Mariner and how Moby Dick has to be read as a harbinger of the postmodernist age.

We will explore the psychoanalytic dimensions of both works and other possible readings

We also investigate how the critique of instrumental rationality in Adorno and Horkheimer's dialectic of enlightenment is prefigured in both these texts.
