Afi Sevor
RHACC Student to Published Author
When Afi Sevor joined Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College (RHACC), she was rebuilding her confidence and improving her English after a life-changing accident. Balancing recovery, dyslexia, and family life as a solo parent, she was unsure what to expect.
“When I came to RHACC, I was scared. I didn’t think I could do it,” Afi says. “But the teachers made me feel like I could start again – like I was capable.”
Starting with English Level 1, Afi found the small classes and supportive tutors gave her the confidence to keep going. Encouraged by her tutors, she progressed to English Level 2, where her final project became her first published book, The Manual That Did Not Come With You.
“That Level 2 English project changed everything,” she explains. “It gave me the confidence to apply for university – something I never thought I would do.”
Afi went on to complete a BA (Hons) in Education Studies at St Mary’s University. Looking back, she describes RHACC as more than a college.
“RHACC isn’t just a place to study – it’s a community. You feel safe, supported, and able to start again, no matter where you’re starting from.”
Today, Afi continues to inspire others through her writing and encourages adult learners to take that first step. “With the right support,” she says, “you can achieve more than you ever imagined.”
