English Learner to Professional Photographer

When Meysam Atri joined Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, his initial aim was to improve his English. He began with ESOL before progressing to Functional English, which helped him build confidence and develop the professional vocabulary he needed for creative and working environments.

Alongside his language studies, Meysam developed his photography through Photography Level 1 and Level 2. With prior experience in photojournalism, product photography, and graphic design, he brought a strong creative eye to his work. His talent was clearly demonstrated when he photographed the RHACC Winter Art & Crafts Fair, producing a series of striking images that captured the atmosphere, detail, and energy of the event with real professionalism.

Meysam’s relationship with RHACC quickly grew beyond the classroom. He volunteered on creative projects, designed posters for the college and the election of governors, and contributed photography and content that supported RHACC’s marketing and communications. These opportunities helped him gain real-world experience, strengthen his portfolio, and build confidence as a professional creative.

Meysam describes his connection with RHACC as personal, positive, and motivating. Through combining English language learning, creative development, and hands-on collaboration, he has strengthened his voice, showcased his ability as a photographer, and taken confident steps towards the next stage of his career.
